Amol Sinha Appointment as Executive Director

Amol Sinha was appointed as the next Executive Director for ACLU- NJ chapter. He is the first Indian American Immigrant and also the first person of South-Asian descent to be appointed to this position. Before this, he was already serving as the director of the Suffolk chapter of ACLU. The son of Indian immigrants, Amol Sinha is an experienced advocate with expertise in diverse subjects related to law such as criminal justice, civil liberties, the management of non-profits as well as legislative policy according to his Linkedin profile. He also has tremendous experience in teaching and has designed many courses on media law, civil rights, and criminal justice and is a Strong Advocate for South Asian communities.

The path to ACLU

Amol Sinha was born to parents who Immigrated from India to the USA in 1970. He was born in Philadelphia but spent most of his growing years in New Jersey. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts in economics and journalism from New York University. Amol then went on to earn his law degree from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, where his core focus was on litigation and constitutional rights. During his college years, Amol worked for many nonprofit organizations which included the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative. Amol joined the ACLU as an intern in its National Legal Department after his second year at law school. At ACLU he focused on national security and litigation regarding the first amendment to the American constitution, which grants American citizens the right to freedom of expression, right to bear arms and the right to follow any religion they choose, amongst other rights.

As a passionate advocate of civil rights and civil liberties, Amol Sinha has worked hard to ensure that the voice of the South Asian community is heard in discussions regarding civil rights. Other notable achievements by him include serving as Vice President of Public Interest for the South Asian Bar Association of New York, serving as state policy advocate for the Innocence Project, and chapter director for New York Civil Liberties Union for Suffolk County.
