INTERNATIONAL STANDARDS FOR ASSESSMENT AND ACCREDITATION PRACTICES IN INDIA

International standards for assessment and accreditation practices in India
National and international agencies have come together to produce a common schedule of international quality assurance for Indian Universities. As per this agenda the higher educational institutes in India will be getting International standards for assessment and accreditation practices. The prime agencies involved in this missionary work include the National Assessment (NAAC), and international agencies from Asia, Europe, Australia, America, UK, Africa and other countries. In the procedure of this commission, the information pertaining to all the higher educational institutions will be made available along one single portal. One of the leading English newspapers of India, the Hindustan Times has mentioned the names of certain representations that would be participating in this motion; the same are cited beneath:
  • “ Asia Pacific Quality Network (APQN)
  • Council of Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), USA
  • European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA)
  • European Consortium for Accreditation in Higher Education (ECA)
  • Arab Network for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ANQAHE)
  • ASEAN Quality Assurance Network (AQAN)
  • Asia Pacific Quality Register (APQR)
  • Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education UK (QAA- UK)
  • Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA), Australia
  • Tertiary Education Commission, Mauritius (TEC)
  • Malaysian Qualification Agency
  • Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP)
  • Higher Education Evaluation and Accreditation Council of Taiwan (HEEACT)
  • And, National Institution for Academic Degrees and Quality Enhancement for Higher Education (NIAD-QE), Japan”.
To address a few of the crucial issues such as sustaining a well-established information and recognition system, APQN took a position to start an international project in collaboration with UNESCO on the quality information portal. The director of NAAC, Prof D.P. Singh stated that, “we need to promote development of regional and global databases of recognized accreditation bodies and accredited higher education institutions. We are working on enhancing links among all existing quality registers such as CHEA, European Quality Assurance Registers and databases for Higher Education (EQAR) and Asia Pacific Quality Register (APQR) for accreditation agencies. Similarly, existing databases and information portals of accredited higher education institutions need to be strengthened and linked”. The students and other stakeholders in the Universities and other intergovernmental bodies, quality assurance agencies, are forcing them to protect their interests while promoting international student movement. The above mentioned international quality assurance agencies are involved in working to promote noble practices by the application of multiple platforms like workshops, publications, group discussions, virtual communication and technologies, and staff exchange programs which will be included in the Bengaluru Statement 2016 on Next Generation Quality Assurance of Higher Education. It is notable that for the first time in the history of higher education, quality assurance has been provided by international agencies and global quality networks of the four continents. These bodies have joined together to bring about a crucial innovation in the worldwide history of higher education quality assurance. The Professor Syun Tutiya of NIAD-QE mentioned that, “We are working towards discussing the current situations in Japan's quality assurance of higher education focusing on its governmental moves including international collaborative programs”. The President of CHEA, USA has also mentioned that, “internationalization is now a powerful force throughout the academic community. We exchange information and ideas on common interests and concerns, including public accountability, student learning outcomes, new modes of educational delivery, international quality expectation, the role of government, academic freedom, non-institutional education, a single set of quality standards, rankings, degree mills and more”. The whole world has united to bring a positive innovation in international education and foreign travel.
