STD: Full Form, Definition and Explanation

Introduction

STD stands for Sexually Transmitted Diseases. These are the most commonly transmitted but not specifically through sexual activity.STD’s include  genital warts, genital herpes, HIV, gonorrhoea, syphilis, chlamydia, other kinds of hepatitis & trichomoniasis. STDs were formally labelled as  venereal diseases. 

The title STD says that the disease spreads sexually. Not all STDs are transmitted sexually, they can also transfer through non-sexual activity. Infected tissues, blood transfusion, breastfeeding, and exchanging syringes fall under Non-contact forms.

STD: What are the Signs and Sources?

Below are the signs of having an STD:

  • Presence of Ulcers on or near the genitals.
  • Penile Discharge
  • Pelvic Disorder
  • Vaginal Discharge
  • Tumours

Sources of STD: 

  1. STDs by bacterias – Gonorrhea, Syphilis & Chlamydia
  2. STDs by viruses – HIV, genital warts & vaginal acne
  3. STDs by Parasites – Trichomoniasis

What are the Risk Factors of STD?

The significant risk factors among women include:

  • Pelvic Inflammatory Disease 
  • Abortions
  • ectopic pregnancies
  • In extreme cases, it will also lead to cancer of the reproductive system.
  • Feeling a burning sensation when urinating.
  • A severe pain in the lower abdomen.
  • When a woman has a vaginal discharge.
  • Men usually experience a discharge from the penis.

What causes STDs(Sexually Transmitted Disease)?

Some STDs can occur without any non-sexual contacts. For example, breastfeeding, contaminated tissues, blood, and pregnancy.

STD is used to call long-distance trunk contacts without the operator’s help outside of a predetermined border. The term STD is commonly used in India, UK, Australia, Republic of Ireland & South East Asia. It is known as Direct Distance Dialing in the USA.

The STD system was finished in 1979, but much of the country had already been touched long before the STD.

The STD system specifies STD codes for every area, which are called area codes. The subscriber has to dial such codes before using the contact number to make a phone call.

Sexually Transmitted diseases may be cured if antibiotics are given, but only if the therapy is started early. Viral diseases cannot be completely cured as they always undergo changes in their nuclear material. They can be managed if the right medicine is used. Additionally, there are vaccines available to treat or prevent certain STDs, but it won't help if you are suffering with it.
