HOW TO CONVERT CGPA INTO PERCENTAGE?

How to Convert CGPA into Percentage?

Introduction

The most popular among all these is CGPA, also known as the Cumulative Grade Point Average. While calculating the grade sheets after evaluation, the universities convert CGPA into percentages for easy comparison. This also gives a better understanding of where each student stands in the competition.

If you are looking at how to convert CGPA into a percentage, this is the right blog for you. This might help you while calculating your own academic performance. Read the blog to understand the concept in brief.

What is CGPA?

CGPA refers to the Cumulative Grade Point Average. The overall academic performance of a student is assessed by using CGPA. The CGPA is calculated by taking the mean of the GPA that a candidate receives each semester and dividing it by the total number of credit points. In accordance with the CGPA system, the grade points are assigned to every particular range of score. For example, A range of scores (90-95) is assigned with a grade point of 9.  It is most commonly used to assess a student's overall academic achievement on a given subject.

The cumulative grade point average (CGPA) is calculated as the mean of the GPA of each semester dividing it by the total number of credits. Grade Point 9 is assigned to a range of 90-95 points in accordance with the CGPA system, and many academic institutions make their CGPA conversion table available online for students to use.

What is the Maximum CGPA Required to Study Abroad?

A grade point between 9.5 and 10 is considered the maximum Cumulative Grade Point Average. Calculating CPGA is mandatory for studies like Engineering, MBA, IT programs, etc to study abroad.

What is the Formula to Calculate CGPA?

You can calculate the Cumulative grade point average (CGPA) by adding all the grade points from all the major subjects and dividing by the total subjects.

How to Convert CGPA to Percentage?

The CGPA to percentage conversion just involves multiplying the CGPA by 9.5. The formula is also available on the CBSE’s official website for students belonging to grades IX and X. For example, if you scored a cumulative grade point average of 9, the comparable percentage would be 9*9.5= 85.5%.

What is CBCS?

The CBCS refers to the Choice-Based Credit System. It offers students to select courses from a list of prescribed courses that include elective and skill-based courses. Students are graded on their performance in the courses using the grading method. This method is superior to the traditional mark system.

Compute the percentage for the 10-Point Grading System (CBCS):

Formula: Percentage. (%) = 7.1 * CGPA +11.

You can calculate the percentage using the formula given above and then round it off to the nearest full integer. Also, remember that few universities will ask you to convert a 10 CGPA to a 4 GPA format for their own convenience.

GPA Formula: Total number of grade points/ total number of credits

CGPA formula: SGPA’s of all the semesters in one year/ number of semesters

SGPA is given by

 (C1G1+C2G2+C3G3+C4G4+C5G5/ (C1+C2+C3+C4+C5)

Here, the courses are designated as C1, C2, C3, C4, and C5.

G1, G2, G3, G4, and G5 are the grade points.

What is SGPA?

The (SGPA) is also known as the Semester Grade Point Average. It analyses a student’s overall performance during a semester. It is the average of the grade points earned across all courses throughout the semester.

How to calculate SGPA:

Calculating SGPA is an easy task and follow the below steps to calculate it:

  1. Make a list of all credit points and grade points earned for each subject.
  2. For every subject, make sure to multiply your credit point by your grade for each subject.
  3. Add all the results together
  4. Then, divide the total score by the sum of credit points
  5. Thereby, SGPA is calculated

For example:

Step 1: Enlist all your credit points & grades for each subject.

Credit Score Grades

Subject A-4

Subject A-8

Subject B-3

Subject B-8.8

Subject C-2

Subject C-7

Subject D-2

Subject D-9

Step 2: Multiply the credit points and grade points attained in each subject:

Subject A - 4 x 8 = 32

Subject B - 3 x 8.8 = 26.4

Subject C - 2 x 7 = 14

Subject D - 2 x 9 = 18

Step 3: Add all the results together.

Subject A+ Subject B+ Subject C+ Subject D= 32+26.4+14+18= 90.4

Step 4: Divide the total score by the sum of all credit points:

Total credit points= 4+3+2+2=11

SGPA=90.4/ 11=8.2

Step 5: This is how SGPA is calculated.

According to the definitions we demonstrated, CGPA is defined as the sum of SGPAs per academic year. To compute your CGPA, you must first calculate the average score of all subjects in each semester, known as the SGPA. To calculate the CGPA, add all the SGPA&rsquo s from all semesters and divide it by the total number of semesters.

CGPA= (Total SGPAs in an academic year)/Number of semesters

How to calculate SGPA to percentage?

Formula: [(SGPA * 10) – 7.5 = Percentage]

SGPA to Percentage:

[(SGPA * 10) – 7.5 = Percentage]

Where Ci = Credit assigned for a particular course

GPi = Grade point for that particular course

Now that you have understood how to calculate SGPA, let's look at how to convert SGPA into CGPA. Most universities issue scores in the form of CGPA, however when applying to universities to study abroad, it is mandatory to have the score in percentage form. This is why we have also included the formula a calculate percentages based on the CGPA. While converting SGPA to CGPA, multiply the entire CGPA by 9.5 to get a percentage.

For example:

If the CGPA is 8, multiply it by 9.5 which yields a percentage of 76.

CGPA CGPA*9.5 Percentage

We get this question a lot. Many candidates know which career path they want to take, but are at a loss for how to take that journey. Understanding the job role and the industry that you want to get into is the first step to picking the right university.
