Hong Kong Visa Application Process – Requirements, Fees & More

Hong Kong has created the Quality Migrant Admission Scheme (QMAS Visa) to recruit international immigrants who can contribute to the Hong Kong economy. It is a quota-based scheme for talented and skilled persons who want to stay in Hong Kong for better career possibilities or to start their own business.

You must meet all of the eligibility conditions and pass the point-based system. If you obtain the required score, you can apply for a visa through the Department of Hong Kong Immigration. Find out the application process for the QMAS visa process below.

Check your Eligibility

All applicants for the QMAS must meet the minimum qualifying criteria for this visa. Once declared eligible, candidates will be assigned points based on either of the two point-based assessments that will be conducted.

Points-based Test

Applicants who meet all of the qualifications can choose to be evaluated using the General Points Achievement-based Points Test. The General Points Test has six separate variables and the Achievement-based Points Test has only one factor for scoring points. The administration establishes a minimum passing mark for the general points test; however, those applying through the accomplishment points test must assess their qualifications before applying.

Quota Allocation Through Selection Exercise

The Hong Kong government will conduct selection exercises on an ongoing basis to allocate quotas to applicants. Applicants who meet both the criteria and the minimum passing mark for the General Points Test or the one point-scoring criterion for the Achievement-based Test will be ranked based on their scores throughout each exercise. The applicants with the highest scores will be shortlisted for further examination.

The Director of Immigration, in consultation with the Advisory Committee on Admission of Quality Migrants and Professionals, shall decide how to best allocate the quota. The results of the selection process will be published on the official website of the Immigration Department, and if you choose to apply through Global Tree, our immigration consultants will keep you updated on the status of your application.

Approval-in-Principle

Candidates who are assigned a quota in the selection process are given an approval-in-principle letter. These applicants must go to Hong Kong for an in-person interview and provide originals of all papers provided in support of their application. For this purpose, the applicants will need to enter Hong Kong on a visiting visa. It should be emphasized that receiving an approval-in-principle letter does not imply that immigration under the scheme has been approved.
