Indian travellers must have a Canadian tourist visa, also known as a temporary resident visa, to travel to Canada. When this visa is attached to the passport, it implies that the candidate has met all the requirements to be a temporary resident in Canada.

Documentation Required to Apply for a Canadian Tourist Visa

  • Application Form: Every candidate should appropriately fill and submit the visitor visa application form.
  • Identity document: A colour copy of the visitor’s passport, specifically the biodata page with all the personal details of the visitor and any page with visa stamps or any markings.
  • Family information: Each visitor who is older than 18 years of age should submit a Family information application ( Form IMM5645).This form is one approach to deciding whether the candidate can be granted a visitor visa or not.
  • Photograph: Two photographs of the candidate (in the size 35mm*45mm) that were taken within the past six months. The background of the photo should be plain white or any other light colour. For further photo specifications, please visit www.cic.gc.ca.
  • Account Statement: The candidate should provide their account details for the preceding 6 months – their bank name, contact, and balances. Through this document, IRCC can assess if the candidate is financially stable to visit the country.
  • Travel Itinerary: The visitor is required to submit their flight details and accommodation details that will give IRCC an understanding of the visitor’s stay in Canada.
  • Travel history: The candidate should submit copies of their other visas, entry or exit stamps, or old passports as proof that the candidate was eligible to obtain a visa in the past.
  • Use of representative: If the visa application form of the candidate is filled by a third party or a family member, they are required to fill a ‘use of representative form- Form 5476.’
  • Minor: If the visitor is a minor, a letter that approves the minor child to travel to the country and any other documents must be submitted. In the case of a minor child, the documents needed to be submitted vary depending on whether they are travelling alone, or with a parent or relative.

Cost of a Tourist Visa for Canada

For a visitor visa, each candidate is obliged to pay an application fee of 100 CAD. If a family of five members or more, apply for the visa at the same time and place, the application fee would be 500 CAD.

Additional to the application fee, each candidate is required to pay their biometrics fee of 85 CAD. If a family of 2 members or more, apply for the visa at the same time and place, the biometrics fee would be 170 CAD.

Process Time for a Canada Visitor Visa

The average processing time for a Canadian visitor visa would be 2 weeks. This period does not cover the time taken to transmit an application from a visa application centre to the office or the time required for the candidate to provide biometrics. The candidate can check the accurate processing time on the official government website.

Steps to Apply for a Canada Visitor Visa

Step1: Decide whether to apply online or on paper.

Step2: Be ready with all the required documents that demonstrate the eligibility for a visitor visa.

Step 3: Fill out the application form correctly and submit all the documents asked. If you are applying online: Create an account on the IRCC portal by entering your e-mail id and the code given.
If you are applying offline: Send the application to the nearest Visa Application Center.

Step 4: Make a payment using a credit or debit card from American Express, Visa, Mastercard, Union Pay, or JCB to submit the application form.

Step 5: Submit your biometrics at the nearest Visa Application Center.

Step 6: Submit your passport once you receive the approval of your application

Step 7: Track your visitor visa application using the unique tracking number given to you.

How Long Can an Indian with a Visitor Visa Stay in Canada

Most Indian visitors with a visitor visa are allowed a stay period of 6 months in Canada. However, a visitor may be given a stay period of fewer than 6 months by a border service offer. In this case, the end date will be given on the passport.

How to Extend a Canada Tourist Visa

If the visitors decide to extend their stay in Canada, they are required to apply for a visitor record before their existing visa expires. The visitor visa document allows a visitor to stay longer in Canada and it also includes a new expiry date. This document does not guarantee that the visitor can leave and re-enter the country. The fee for the visa extension is CAD 100.
