Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AINP)

  • The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP), which was formerly known as the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program, is an economic immigration program
  • It is intended for those individuals who are seeking Canada PR visa through Nomination from the province of Alberta

What are the Different Streams for the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program

The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program has the following streams

AAIP - Streams for workers

The AAIP has three different streams for international workers who plan to live and work in the province or are already living there

Alberta Opportunity Stream

If you are already living and working in the province, and have an existing job offer from an employer in the province, then you can apply for this program under the Alberta opportunity stream

Eligibility Requirements for the AIPP - Opportunity stream

  • You will need to have a temporary resident worker permit and be authorized to work in Alberta at the time of applying
  • You should have completed a Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) successfully
  • You can also apply if you have a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) from an Alberta post-secondary institution and have an open work permit issued under IRCTC's open work permit public policy
  • You should be working in one of the eligible occupations listed under the National Occupational Classification (NOC) skill levels 0, A, B, C and D are eligible under the AAIP.
  • You will need to prove your proficiency in English and/or French by submitting the scores of your language tests and should score a minimum level of 5 in CLB in either of the languages
  • You will need to have an existing job offer at the time of your application and should have at least 12 months of work experience in the field in which you are applying for immigration to Alberta
  • You will not be eligible to apply for Alberta if you are working in a part-time, seasonal or casual employment or are working remotely

Alberta Advantage Immigration Program - Streams for entrepreneurs

If you are planning to immigrate as an entrepreneur under the AAIP, then there are four different streams through which you can apply, based on the nature of your business or entrepreneurship

AAIP -Rural entrepreneur stream

  • You can apply for AAIP under this stream if you plan to start a new business or acquire an existing one in a location designated as a rural community by the program
  • A community is classified as a rural community if it has a population of less than 100,000 as per the most recent census report

Eligibility requirements for AAIP -Rural Entrepreneur Stream

  • You should have at least three years of work experience in the capacity of a manager ro four years in the capacity of a senior manager
  • You should have completed your high school or an equivalent qualification
  • You will need to have at least CLB level of 4 for each language category for English and NCLC 4 for each category for French with test results not more than two years old
  • The total minimum net worth of all yours and your spouse’s assets should be a minimum of 300000 CAD
  • You should be able and willing to invest a minimum amount of 200,000 CAD from either your own or your spouse’s net worth
  • You should have a minimum of 51 percent of ownership in case you are planning to acquire a business in the province. If you have higher than 51 percent, then you will get more points
  • All Business Partners need to be Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents or you should have 100 percent ownership of the business
  • The business you propose to start/takeover/invest should not be an ineligible business as defined by the province
  • If you are planning to start a new business, then you should commit to creating at least one full-time paying job for either Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents of Canada, who are not your relatives
  • You will need to have a support letter from the participating rural community in the province

How to Apply for Rural Entrepreneur Stream

  • If you plan to apply for the Alberta Advantage Immigration program, then you will need to submit an Expression of Interest for the program
  • You can come for an exploratory visit to assess the prospects in the province. However you will need to meet all the visa requirements for visiting the province on your own and will not be provided a letter of support by the province or the community
  • It is recommended that you research the business opportunities as well as the regulations in the community before you apply
  • You should keep copies of any meetings, contacts, and descriptions of any activity related to the setting up of your business establishment as part of your Exploratory Visit Report.
  • Once you complete the exploratory visit, you should complete the Rural Entrepreneur Stream Business Proposal and submit it to the contact person for the community where you intend to apply
  • Once you have received a copy of the support letter, then you will be able to submit an Expression of Interest

AAIP -Foreign Graduate Entrepreneur Stream

  • This is an economic integration program, established by the province of Alberta, for foreign graduates who have the expertise, experience and resources to invest in a business in the province
  • If you are an International graduate from an approved post-secondary educational institution and are planning to start or acquire a business in the province, then you can apply for this stream

Eligibility Requirements for AAIP Graduate Entrepreneur Stream

  • You can apply for this stream, if you are an international graduate from an approved educational institution
  • You should have at least six months of full-time work experience, that is either involved in owning or actively managing a business or its equivalent
  • You will need to have successfully acquired a degree from a post-secondary institution with an ECA
  • You should have obtained the degree within the immediately preceding 10 years of submitting your Expression of Interest
  • You should have a minimum CLB level of 5 for English and 4 for French for each language category
  • You should be willing to have at least 34 percent of ownership if your business is situated in an urban center, or at least 51 percent ownership if your business is situated in a regional area
  • You should be willing and able to make a minimum investment of 100000 CAD in case of an urban area and 50000 CAD incase of a regional area
  • You will need to have a letter of recommendation from a designated agency that has been approved by the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program
  • You should be able to prove that you have sufficient funds for setting up your business and supporting yourselves during your stay in the province on a work permit.

How to Apply for AAIP - Graduate Entrepreneur Stream

  • Check your eligibility for the stream to see if you are eligible to apply for this stream
  • Review all the documents that are required and submit your Expression of Interest
  • Once you have submitted your EOI, then it will be assessed and will be assigned points on the basis of a points grid
  • If your EOI profile is among the highest ranked, then you will be asked to submit a Business Application. You will need to submit the following as part of your Business ss Application
  • Business Plan
  • Pitch Deck
  • Net Worth Worksheet
  • Letter of Recommendation from a Designated Agency
  • Authorization to Collect information for immediate family members if applicable

Eligibility for Submitting Business Plan

  • The purpose of your proposed business should be to make a profit from active income earned through providing a service or sale of goods
  • The business should comply with all laws that are applicable
  • The proposed business should be connected to any of the following sectors
  • Technology
  • Aerospace
  • Financial Services
  • Energy
  • Agriculture
  • Tourism
  • Life Sciences
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Your business should have a physical presence in Alberta province and should not be remote one

Once you have determined your eligibility for submitting a business plan, then you should do so and await the results from the province. If selected you will be nominated for Canada PR by the province and will be invited to set up business in the province
